Orvis whisky tasting

Went to a whisky tasting sponsored by Orvis here in my area on Thursday night. It wasn't much. They had a bottle of Dalwhinne and one of Glenkinnchie and one of Laphroaig 10 and a bottle of Dewars. I figured that I could reasonably claim a quarter shot from each sample...that's what was being served up. So, not really caring for the others, I just went back for the Laphroaig four times.

They had a mighty good food buffet, though.

Anyway I didn't bring a camera so the only photo I have to show is one of me taken by a commercial outfit that is doing a "social scene," "see-and-be-seen," website for our community. They took more photos but I am not sure I have a legal right to post any but this one.

It was cold and snowy out and I didn't have an Inverness cape or anything suitable to wear with a kilt...except maybe this beautiful motorcycle jacket (it's hard to raise your arms in it but it fits me pretty good otherwise). The coat was warm even if it was black while the rest of my leather kit was brown. Oh well...I'm kind of wild and crazy like that. There's no stopping me sometimes...no use even trying.

You look good, I'd not worry about the leathers, I've got a couple Motorcycle Jackets I really should wear them with the kilt more often, just as long as I'm not my Motorcycle that is.

Thanks! I was kind of surprised how good it did look. But I shouldn't have been. I have been thinking about getting a WWII battledress (or "Ike" jacket) to wear with the kilt and TOS. I like that waist length, and belt at the waist, look.

I finally decided to wear it because I saw a photo...somewhere, here?...of Prince Charles wearing black sporran and brown shoes. Or some such combination. I figured if it worked for him it would work for me too.

Luckily it did.

DWFII, I think your outfit looks great. I also have a black-leather motorcycle jacket, but have not paired it with any of my kilts, yet. Thanks for a comparison look. I also like your bonnet!

I wear my motorcycle leather jacket with the kilt as well, looks much like yours. Its the only good leather jacket I have at the moment, and has gotten less wear time because I use a textile jacket when I am riding. All this just to say you look pretty darn good and I would have gone for the Laphroaig 4x, too.

Thanks. The bonnet is a WPG TOS. I have my jump wings mounted on it...for the moment. But I'm looking at putting a swatch of tartan on the TOS and then putting the wings back on...maybe a unit pin too--right above the wings. Then a little sprig of boxwood behind the swatch. What d'ye think?

Well, if the Laphroaig had been the 15, I would have put on some dark glasses and gone back another 4x.

Thank you indeed. I agree whole heartedly about the Laphroaig. Especially the 15. I like Lagavullin and Talsiker and so forth but never could get comfortable with Laphroaig until I stepped up to the 15. It's like two different malts.

Thanks for the salute to the mustache, as well. I've had some form of facial hair for over 40 years. I don't think I'd recognize myself without it. Once upon a time I had a handlebar that stuck out a good five or six inches on either side of my face. As I got older and the grey replaced the brown, the hair got "funny" and much harder to control...and that wasn't funny.

You've never had a "bad hair day" until you've had one right under your nose.
