A vote for the USAK semi-traditional

    Here is the real deal.
A USAK semi-traditional is a made to your measurements kilt out of Poly-viscous. I have one in the American Heritage tartan that is on my fat (38) body right now. I am a little taller than you but not by much. My semi-trad has been to the New Hampshire Highland Games, to the Irish Cultural Centre's festivals (2) and to five black tie (with Argyle jacket and waistcoat) events. The kilt has taken every possible type of beating that I can dream of, and the pleats are back in place and the kilt looks great after just easy light duty type care. I wear this kilt very often as it has become one of my favourites.
    My tuppence worth.

Try scottishkilts.net for their 5 yd Jura range casual kilt in Stewart da, royal stewart, or stewart of bute, or even wallace, for right around 200 us clams shipped (figuring on saving the 15% VAT and the great exchange rate right now). Look at this link:

    http://scottishkilts.net/products/5_...yard_kilt.html

They also have a similar price casual kilt in a variety of lochcarron strome too that might fit the bill.

As the others have said, USA Kilts.

Another consideration is Sport Kilts for a PV kilt. Sport Kilt will have very fast delivery. I like both my Sport Kilt and my USA Casual. There are pro and cons to each one.

That was going to be my suggestion, so I'll just second it.

Cons to USAK? Sport Kilts are more like sport skirts. I can see no cons at all to USA Kilts, though. I love most of SK's products- I would buy more of their skirts for my wife in a heartbeat- but I will never again buy one of their kilts. USAK, on the other hand, have made me a customer for life.

    Guys,

I REALLY appreciate your help on this and I value your opinions. So it's getting narrowed down to:

-Burnetts-struth: casual, on sale in Royal Stewart

-USA Kilt: Semi Traditional, in either Royal Stewart, Firefighter Memorial or Prince of Wales

-Sport Kilt: "The Works" in Stewart Royal

-Carse of Gowrie (Ebay store): Prince of Wales tartan

Or wait for Jerry to get a Royal Stewart/Standard in my size.

For the guys who have USAK's and kilts from Burnetts & Struth, is the cost and wait time worth it, for something I'm using as 'casual dress' at best?

Thanks again--note to self--always listen to the rabble ;-)

-USA Kilt: Semi Traditional, in either Royal Stewart, Firefighter Memorial or Prince of Wales a touch above your price range two to three week Jones
-Sport Kilt: "The Works" in Stewart Royal about the same as B&S in cost but in acrylic

-Carse of Gowrie (Ebay store): Prince of Wales tartan Interesting but PV? Wool? Shipping might take it over the budget
Or wait for Jerry to get a Royal Stewart/Standard in my size.

One last offering Frugal Corner? If you get the heavy weight, about like Sportkilts the Works for less $, in Acrylic easy care. Heck for the budget you could get the FC 16 oz and a companion 13 oz for the summer!

I have some of Jerry's, One that matches the FC 16 oz, and have ordered a B&S (13 oz wool). I am happy with them all, although I have noticed the SWK's are a lot lighter than the 16 Oz. Decisions Decisions!

Believe it or not Burnetts & Struth have their casual kilt in a predominantly red tartan for Detroit for 199 canadian, which is about 160 US. And if you decide to go with B&S do it before Feb 15 and you can take another 15% off by using the discount code 62a180 at checkout, which would bring your cost down to about 135-140US plus shipping. Not too bad for a decent kilt. I just happened to notice you were from Detroit.

    Brooster,

Has FC "fixed" some of their customer service issues from the past? Are their kilts comparable to Stillwater? For the price I'm sure, we're talking the difference between apples and care parts when comparing to USAK--but maybe it's fair to compare with SWK?

Thanks--still thinking about them--but I REALLY wish it weren't so--but to me--our Detroit tartan is nasty! Reminds me of the flannel shirts I wore in High School ;-)
