Thanks guys--seriously--you've helped. I'm usually a "do-don't-think" kind of guy when it comes to this kind of thing. Having my wife actually suggest to me to get a kilt of a certain color threw me a bit ;-) and the rabble saved me. Normally when I buy a kilt its based on 1) My connection to the tartan 2) am I going to wear it to compete in, or just to 'pub' in 3) is it for more formal occaisons.
So here's what I've come to:
Pulled the trigger on a Sport Kilt "The Works" in Royal Stewart. So I can compete in it and not worry.
BUT
My birthday is coming up and I HAVE to get that Firefighter's Memorial tartan! It looks great and I like the idea of supporting a non-profit with it.
So...it will be a 5 yard wool from USA Kilts in the Firefighter's Memorial tartan.
I think I've learned a few things --my idea of which tartans I'd wear has expanded AND --mostly, when choosing between 2 kilts--get them both!

Check out Frugalcorner. Stewart is red, so is Wallace etc. They have a good selection. And inexpensive.

Padre, with the beating Frugal Corner's been taking around here lately, I'm not sure if too many folks will be checking them out for awhile.
