    Cool New "National Defense" Tartan

    http://www.thefrugalcorner.com/nd.htm

The Frugal Corner has just started marketing the "National Defense" tartan. Not bad looking but not registed with the Scottish Government. Just about any US veteran who served in wartime, whether stateside or overseas, and received the National Defense Service Medal could wear it. (assuming an honorable discharge)

    Thanks McMurdo,

The only reason this means anything to me, is because my late Dad and I had only this one medal in common. We just earned it almost 40 years apart.

    Cheers, ColMac

ColMac - don't forget or underestimate the medal shown by being a part of the armed services!

It's really a handsome tartan. We affectionately called this the Fire Watch medal in the Corps.

Same thing we called it in the Air Force.... That and the Participation Medal....

I still like the tartan, just would prefer it in wool.

I really like those earth tone colors.

That is a very handsome tartan.

And I don't care if they give that medal out just for showing up, I salute each and everyone of you that have served, are serving, or will serve in the future.
Whatever branch, whatever capacity, I thank you!

I remember it being referred to as the "geedunk medal" in the Navy, referring to the fact that there were no overseas or combat requirement to earn it; you could have spent all your time in the geedunk--the snack bar.

But I don't think of it that way. It shows that you served your country, in the capacity you were assigned, and I respect that.
