That is simple awful. To dedicate so much time and energy to defend one's country then be ignored and forgotten when they need their country the most.

Just to reference the quote (thanks for posting that, btw), it was said by Sir Ralph Lilley Turner MC, who served with the 2nd/3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles in Mesopotamia during the First World War.

I have nothing polite to say either.
Joanna Lumley is their steadfast champion - more power to her!

I've worked with them. It's shameful. Wonder how many more MP's expenses can be filed with this tiny saving. Embarrassingly shameful!

I find this to be BEYOND WORDS, ( that can be used on this forum )
Although an American, I served in a "Elite" Group", in the early 60s. To a MAN our UNITS held these MEN in TOTAL RESPECT.Not only for their BRAVERY, but because we felt ( & in my case still do feel ) they were & are MEN of HONOR
My personal message to them is MY BROTHERS, HOLD YOUR HEADS HIGH, YOU KNOW WHO & WHAT YOU ARE !!

I too have nothing polite to say. I have loved serving in the US Army and would gladly serve another nation, i.e. Britain or even the French Foreign Legion but not to be taken care of after 20 years, well that is where the protesting etc.. would start. I have given up the normal family life, marriage etc... To serve my country and if I was abandoned like the Gurkhas then I would be raging mad.

This isn’t about benefits, just settlement rights…?
Are you kidding me?
Shame.
So much for the King’s/Queen’s shilling.

I wish that I could say that I'm surprised, but I'm not. It's just sad, I hope that they keep up the fight.

Considering that all people of nationality of any of the European Community countries have free movement and a right of residence in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland it seems to me that it should not be beyond the ability of politicians to extend these rights to the relatively small number of Gurkhas.
