Special Dress Black Menzies is actually black, white and blue. Further away it does look black and white though.

This is a dancer's variation, which has a bit more color. But I was referring to the actual Menzies black and white tartan, which has only those two colors.

Thanks for posting that pic of the B and W Menzies. I've only ever known the Special Dress version.
I love the look of black and white tartans. My first kilt was a Dress Black Erskine.

Sort of asking that. I want to know why black and white tartans of the various clans were created in the first place. What was the purpose of a black and white tartan?

I don't know the precise purpose, but I would guess that the black and white tartans are actually the oldest of the tartans, dating from before the invention of color. ith:
