Items required for the project:

1) A brown felt-tip marking pen (it must be indelible).
2) A black felt-tip marking pen, also indelible.
3) A seam ripper.
4) A scissors.
5) Two stout rubber bands, of the kind that come wrapped around your morning paper.
6) One (or more) pair of (new) men's tartan boxer shorts two sizes larger than would normally be worn with trousers.

Here's a photo of my "go to" daywear strap. Several years ago, as a long-time leatherworker who knew little about traditional highland wear, I was making up my gear as I went. It seemed to me that putting the buckle in the back was inconvenient and uncomfortable when sitting in a hard-backed chair or bench, so I made up my straps so the buckles ride on my right hip. Another feature that I haven't seen on other straps is the bridle round I stitched where the strap and sporran meet. This allows the sporran to swing a bit easier as I move.

Ron my dear chap,you have gone and done it now!Twenty, no fifty pages on this thread, not one person will agree with another, even the traditionalists will not sing from the same song sheet, the modernists will have a lengthy and heated theoretical discussion on what a sporran strap buckle is---- and not agree, the mods' blood pressure will be off the chart, poor old "Hank" will go into terminal decline, this thread will be closed and re-opened half a dozen times and war will be declared between Europe and the other side of the Atlantic. I can see it now " white hose, flat caps, and NOW sporran strap buckles" could easily cause Internet meltdown and any one who has been on this website for more than a week and knows the form, will go pale instantly whilst diving for the nearest fall out shelter. Gosh, our only slim hope of avoiding universal catastrophe is that the kilt police can sort this potential world shattering question out, at their soonest possible convenience!
