First, what Angus said. Then, what jock said. To reenforce I follow up with what cajuncelt said.
Wear colors, pleae! Black for more formal or funerals. Best of all they won't give you that "hire", or, "off the peg" look.
Dress it up man, this is your chance to legitmately be a peaccck!
JMHO though!

I picked up a pair of navy blue "piper's" hose on sale from STM a while back and love them... even though I haven't done more than pick up a chanter since 8th grade.
IMHO, I think the *bright* white might be a bit much outside of a pipe band, but if you like it, go for it.
Since the price seems to be right, you could always try dying them a different color, too, I suppose....

Although you have only been a member for a few months you already have shown a keen interest in kilts as demonstrated by the number of posts you have. However, your short duration here has probably missed the recurrent and routinely heated debate about white hose in general, which is unfortunate for you. White hose are a "hot button" item for some folks here on the forum, as are "flat caps" and several others we do not need to go into. Just keep hanging around and hearing what other folks have to say about some of the more controversial topics, yearn to understand those postions both historic and personal preference in regards those topics, and as time goes by you will generate your own knowledge base from which to make judgements like whether or not to wear hot pink striped kilt hose with your fluorescent yellow paisley kilt, and more specifically, whether matching paisley flashes are appropriate in that setting.
Stick around, listen, question, and learn, and then make up your own mind. Welcome to the rabble.

Ahh the white & cream hose thing!
From what I gathered from previous topics is:
"wear them if they look good with everything else... they dont suit a lot of tartans and they're not for every occasion but wear them if you really want"
To be honest I dont think I'd wear cream hose... I own a pair and have never worn them but I dont think they look great with anything else I own. I, however, would wear white hose because I feel they probably could compliment an outfit with a white shirt and I just bought a nice white tie that they'd look good (in my opinion obviously) with ![Cool](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
Thanks for the advice though guys... I think I'll go for it on occasion and look into getting other colours because the ones I have with the "popcorn" effect look really nice, well-made and most of all - they're really comfortable!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

The only problem I see you having is the white hose color issue. Advice on that is: if you would wear white socks with an outfit of a particular formality (like with jeans, but not a suit) then wear the white hose. They look really nice by the way.

I really like those!! To satisfy both sides of the argument I am contemplating becoming a piper as I already whistle and the jump would be easy.
Those really are nice looking hose. I so go for it, if anyone ever calls you on something like that.... would you really want to have a conversation with them? :P

Great looking hose. Thanks to ForresterModern for the link. I think I'll order a pair in green or blue for my Black Stewart kilt.

The white hose/cream hose issue is akin to cummerbund flaps up/down on a tuxedo. It would be ridiculously rude to walk up to the father of the bride and point out to him that his crumb catchers are upside down.
Wear what you're comfortable with. While people are entitled to their opinions of your attire, the only person whose opinion should matter is your own.
Comfortable and within your budget? Buy them and wear them in good health!

No matter what color or what anyone thinks of said color they are yours as you are the one whom own them do as you wish with them. Tell the snobs to pound sand until they make diamonds for that is all they are useful for.
