The flags represent Siol nan Gaidheal - a nationalist organisation bracnhes from the SNP that mainly focuses on culture and cultural events. They normally organise these walks.

David R Ross the author , I believe, is in the second last photo in the blue t-shirt and green kilt. (He is the rather tall burly man). I also believe he has not been knighted.

When I saw the flags my first thought was it had something to do with the band called Black Tartan Clan, but I knew that probably wasn't correct

The original SNG was part of the SNP, that was back in the 80s though

Yeah thats true, since 1946, what a guy.
I was talking to one of the locals in the pub and she remembered there used to be thousands turn up, now its a few hundred at the most
