I absolutely agree. I originally grew my beard when I was in my early 20s because I got tired of my 'baby face' making people think I was still a teenager. That's mighty important when you're a young adult trying to prove to the world you're no longer a child.

It really made a difference in the way people talk to me. I've kept it for the last 12 years and at this point I'd feel kind of naked without it. But when it comes to wearing a kilt, it seems that people generally have one of two reactions: they are either impressed by the manliness of it, or they think it looks horridly feminine. A beard goes a long way toward the former.

Aye, I've seen a bit of that as well. Atlanta has always seemed pretty kilt friendly, to me. I go kilted to GSU and have for years... ride MARTA down there and all the rest... and I always meet plenty of friendly people, while getting nothing in the way of negativity.

Thats so cool-I want to GSU also, and riding MARTA was the staple way to get to class since at that time I lived in InmanPark ("Inman Park Reynolds Town next station")!

Yep, a beard can be a great accessory in general, but goes especially well with a kilt... and tends to add ten years to many faces, which can be a real advantage. I feel like it really helped me out during my student teaching, for example; always good to look much older than the students.

Hah, nice! It's good to see a fellow alum on the board! Yeah, one of my buddies lives in Inman Park, at the moment; I live in Dunwoody, so I mainly ride the North/South, but I've been known to venture in all directions, when sittuation dictates.

Reminds me of when I was at 32nd St Naval Station...

I used to spend a LOT of time hanging around downtown at night. Often, I ended up walking back to base, through some of the "not so nice" neighborhoods. Never had any problems.

Asked a homeless person at one point, why I never had any issues travelling through these "bad places". His response?

"Lone white boy, that time of night, those neighborhoods? Must be crazy, and crazy people don't have no money"...

Probably the greatest kilt moment for me was passing through a biker bar with Turpin, to get to street level Pub upstairs. The anticipation of our royal appearance was not enjoyable. There were the typical head jerks and sneers from all the studded patrons as we made entry, but the brilliance of the moment was our strides matching as we entered the doorway and the first sounds of the song "Back In Black" by AC/DC blasting the airwaves...DUN..DUNNA..DUN..DUNNA..DUN
