What is your favorite Scottish Ghost story, and why?

Scary Scottish stories and tales with fairies, goblins and monsters count too.

Particularly after a couple of strange personal experiences here in Canada, I've always been a fan of tales involving kelpies, the water horses. Because they are real.

Other favorites of mine are the tales involving brownies (the wee folk, not the junior girl guides), plus of course the brownie lore itself.

Hmm, if tales of the supernatural appeal then you would probably enjoy The Adept by fantasy novelist Katherine Kurtz. Set in modern day Scotland it's a fast paced yarn that involves ghosties and ghoulies as well as the Loch Ness Monster.

That's where I read about the Green Lady & Hermitage Castle Made me want to look into the stuff it was based on.

Kurtz, the old Scottish name? I'll look for the book. Now that I'm an urban dweller I don't have to feel like I'm living it... but really, the Loch Ness Monster? Surely everyone knows that it's really just a kelpie! Or possibly an each uisge- which is an even scarier kelpie variant I didn't even know about until today.

Great legend. I've been to Ticonderoga and the fort it is definitely there just like the legend says. And if that doesn't prove the story, I don't know what does!

What about the movie The Ghost Goes West? Again, Scottish all the way to the USA!
