    My wife doesn't do those things, but my mother always did.

    It reminds me a bit of my Grandmother (who did the same) always talking about what a hard day my grandpa had at his job. My great aunt only recently let me in on a little secret; grandpa only had to do work when things went wrong, so he played cards 99% of his days at work!
