King Edward VII
What ever his faults, sartorial taste wasn't one of them. He came to be immensely respected by the French, cemented the Entente Cordiale, and they didn't call him the First Gentleman of Europe for nothing.
King Edward began the modern tradition of where if you want an example of good taste in clothing, look at the monarch or members of his family. We still leave that bottom waistcoat button undone because of King Eddy after all.
From that day to the William and Harry today - you won't find these folks caught in a wardrobe faux pas.

You may have a point. But, if Americans wear their sporrans too low, in your opinion, then he made less of an impression on his own Scottish subjects. Moreover, I doubt many Americans reviewed photos of the British royal (whether prince or king) before donning the sporran for the first time...until this wonderful webby came along. But, you may still be right as I admit your track record at being correct is better than mine.
