Versatile weathered tartan

Jock...I completely understand the single kilt idea. I have a question for my own clarification...is it ONE and only one kilt? Or is it one tartan with possibly a couple actual kilts (perhaps variations in cloth weight), but looking the same so as to be seen as a single kilt?

In my time I was the proud owner of many kilts(same tartan) that I have inherited from various members of the family and over time they have mysteriously shrunk, as they do. My sons are now wearing them.

No, what I am resisting at the age of three score and ten(plus a tad), I really do not need another kilt. I would only ever wear the tartan of one Clan, although the tartan does have a fair few colour tones to choose from; modern,ancient, weathered and then I could go down the dress tartan route, also with modern, ancient,(not sure if there is a weathered option) and then I could have the same tartan from different mills to give me even more colour options.

Lots of options open to me then. But remember the ostentatious factor that I mentioned earlier? Whilst I don't want to overplay the point, nevertheless it is a factor, we bear in mind. Indeed in the past I did wear quite a few kilts(same tartan), that a knowledgeable kilt watcher would note the differences, but as I had inherited them, then that was acceptable as it was making sensible use of good fortune and resources.

In truth it comes down to cost and as I was always instructed to "divorce need from necessity" then really, whilst I might "need" a new kilt in my weathered tartan it is, at my age, hardly a "necessity". Dammit!

Chukta, that is a really great looking kilt, and thanks for showing us several different outfits featuring it!

All that said, it's been Jock's hillarity that's really kept me reading through this thread.

you are looking realy smart thanks for showing them , and to Jock go for it you cant take it with you I am a bit older than you and my way of looking at things is if you fancy someting get it let the kids make their own and dont give the government any death duties

Good advice Tam. All being well, should I live just another few years the cupboard will be nearly empty as far as death duties go!

I note that you have written sons in the plural. What are they to do in their later years when the kilts they have no longer fit them? It seems the best you can do by your sons is to make sure you have more than one in the larger sizes to be passed down when you are gone, perhaps one in weathered colors.

Actually two of my sons are rather on the grand size and these days they seem to buy tartan by the acre to make their kilts! The other one is more of a standard size and I think he will end up with more than a few family tartans.

Okay you unhelpfully mischievous fellows you just sit there and poke fun at poor old Jock in his hour/s of torment, nary a word of comfort, yes well alright I will carry on suffering as you mock and laugh at my expense------I will battle through-----I think-----I hope-----with considerable heartache and disquiet, I might add-------I WILL-----might -----could---------possibly---- survive this----testing time----------well thanks for not a lot chaps!
