Kilted Full Time?

Haven't worn trousers since Jan 1st. Loose boxers provide quite enough "freedom" for anyone IMHO. The hygiene/modesty arguments are irrefutable. Not seeking to tell anyone how to dress. A legal figleaf is OK by me. Just sometimes wonder about the motivation of those that insist on always going regimental. They talk about "freedom", but I frankly suspect some just get a kick out of it!

I don't know about that... Even boxers are less comfy than regimental. I'm not one of those who insistantly never wears anything- I will if need be- but I prefer not to.

I'll chime in...I threw away all my trousers 8 years ago. The only time I compromise is occasionally wearing shorts when working in the main street up a ladder (I'm a signwriter) - but I do charge extra if I have to get out of a kilt (hang on, that came out wrong)

In hot weather I find polyviscose kilts are fantastic and affordable, but I mostly work in hemp kilts (Rkilts.com)

When I began I felt very self conscious out in public in a kilt, but now I feel weird if I'm NOT in a kilt.
My advice, step at a time, to give your family, friends and workmates time to adjust to your new found freedoms.

How does one go all kilt all the time, economically? Does one need more than seven kilts? Does one pay for dry cleaning every week? If so, wouldn't that decrease the life of one's fairly expensive wool kilts?

Perhaps my geographical location is to blame. I live in Florida where it is hot and humid almost six months out of the year. Perspiration presents a hurdle I can't seem to get over in my mind. I have considered the idea of wearing undergarments to decrease the frequency of necessary washes but this would seem to restrict the freedom provided by the kilt in the first place.

I have a burning desire to never wear trousers again. Any full time kilters care to chime in?

You are in North Florida, you don't have to deal with hot/humid for 9 months out of the year like us Central and Southern Floridiots do.

And this might be a shock...

My kilt doesn't touch enough of my body (unless I'm seated a lot) to gather perspiration. I've even worn washable acrylic kilts for 2-3 weeks without a washing - and usually then just as a prep to pressing. Trust me... this is even more true with wool as it breathes better than PV and Acrylic, and even has antimicrobial properties (I have 100% wool cable-knit kilt hose that I've treated similar, no odor even after wearing as long as they get hung up and "aired out" after wearing.) Those get washed by hand, but usually just to tighten the knits up again after repeated wearings have loosened them up.
