USAkilts and Stillwater, as mentioned, are going to be two of the best options. Glad you joined, you will find a wealth of knowledge on here! It's quite often that you will learn stuff on here you never even inquired about! ;-)

As so many others have said, welcome to the rabble!

Wander over the border and keep going if you ever want to visit here in Akron, Ohio [the armpit of the United States.]

I have a semi-traditional kilt from USA kilts that I am simply in love with and I wear it much more often than I wear my tank (local slang for one of the traditional hand-sewn 8-yard kilts).

I also have a few of the StillWater kilts that I wear on almost a daily basis during the summer here at my shop... I work with grease and oil so I won't wear one of the more expensive kilts in.

My Stillwater heavy-weight kilt is still on order, so I can't give any feedback about how it fits, but I can give you this advice:

Look how to measure yourself for a kilt, have someone measure your length. If you are a bit off from that 24-inch length that is standard for off-the-rack kilts, you really might want to consider getting one of USA Kilts casual kilts.

(I need a 22 inch length on my kilts and it is amazing the difference it makes in how kilts fit and feel... a properly fitting kilt is truly a joy to wear.)

I'd suggest you check with Rocky (USA Kilts) and confirm your measurements and order a USA Casual kilt. It will be made to your measurements and is an easy way to get started with being kilted. You'll know what your measurements are or if they need any adjustment for when you order your more expensive kilt(s).

Hi, Mark, and welcome to X Marks from the bottom end of Africa.
It took me a year of jonesing before I could order my first civilian kilt in January, but it was worth the wait. Now I am awaiting my second!
I would also say get yourself a cheap kilt now (not too cheap!) and wait while you save your dollars to get the one you really want.
    Regards,
    Mike

The rabble is a welcoming lot indeed!

Thanks to you all for warm welcome and advice.

cdarwin - Thanks for the advice, I'll be on the lookout for the Kilt Kops (Why isn't that a show on television yet?)

Mike_Oettle - HOPEfully it won't take me a year before I order my first one, maybe 364 days, but certainly not a year.

EagleJCS & ForresterModern - I'm currently in the western portion of the state (near Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake) but I'm originally from Louisville and went to WKU down in Bowling Green so I've been all over the place.

McClef - What a small world. A kilted minister is surely something to see.

Thank you all and I'll be sure to take another look at SWK.

    - Mark
