You know, Bugbear those are my thoughts, too. One of my working assumptions is that with modern kilt wear sporrans (oh yes, and flashes/garters) are optional and pockets are an interesting and practical addition to the garment whether that be slash pockets or cargo-styled pockets. I'm heading in the direction of no sporran.
I think the potential for this thread is much a long the line of a photo-essay for modern kilt wear. It's good to have photos all in one place, full of ideas and suggestions for how to put a modern kilt-look together. And, it is helpful for guys like me who are exploring this particular genre (did I just say, genre?!) of kilt wear.
So to the above posters: Riverkilt, CMcG, Bugbear, SevenOaks, and Big Mikey, awesome examples. What I've noticed among many things is that non-tartan kilts would work great with my patterned vests and sweaters. I'm likn' it so far!
