Saturday, (9/24) we attended the first annual Sherwood Forest Celtic Festival and Highland Games at the Sherwood renfaire grounds near Austin Texas. It was a nice day for the event, though it got a little warm in the afternoon.
For the first year the Festival had a really good turnout, I don't know the numbers, but I think it was likely twice what they had prepared for, somewhat overwhelming the limited number of pubs and food vendors that opened up for the event! But over all it was a great time with plenty to do and see.

On to some photos....

Here's my dad and I, right in the gate. Dad has the opposite problem that many of us have, his kilt got too big for him!

And our friend Mindy, who was our adult supervision for the day, since my wife was doing a half marathon in Houston.

The first show we caught was the Bedlam Bards, these guys are old friends, it seems like I see them at every Celtic/renfaire/sci-fi event I go to!

A bit later we caught a show by the Blaggards, one of my favorite Irish rock bands. I think there were over a dozen musical acts at the fest, too many to see in one day!

My friend Julie with piper E.J. Jones.

Due to the inherent cross promotion of having a games and Celtic festival at a renfaire park there was a eclectic mix of folks and dress at the festival. But there were a lot of folks there who've never been to a renfaire, that now want to go, and likewise a lot of rennies that are looking forward to another Highland games etc...

I know a lot of folks gripe about faire outfits at the Highland games etc... but If my friend Elaine wants to wear her faire garb, who am I to complain?

But there were a few "kilt don'ts" around, like this kid in the mini-skirt.

The XMarks crew, Jack Daw, BDKilted, Zardoz, GuinnessWater.. correct me if I got any names wrong. I know that a few others, including Trifin, Drac, and TriolaMJ were around, but we didn't get photos.
