Re: New Book on Scotland from Library
All right, I have read enough of the book to say that Devine does give the good, the bad, and the Scottish, so to speak; it does seem balanced in prospective. I am not qualified to say how well balanced his approach is, or if his narrative and all his facts are correct. If it does check out, this would probably also make a pretty good reference book for it's subject.
In chapter 8, "Settlers, Traders and Native Peoples," he does give a good sized quote from, Colin G. Calloway's White People, Indians and Highlanders, in discussing the romanticized historical view of the relationships between tribal Highlanders and Tribal Americans. That book comes up a lot on the forum... and I don't have it yet... so that was nice to come across. ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I will finish reading the book, and hope this small review thread helps someone, one of these days.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
