So you have $1700 for the first kilt. But if you bought enough fabric for two kilts, that would make an addtional 5 yards on top of the previous 11 necessary. 5 yards at $100 makes the total price for two kilts $2200, or $1100 each. Keep going that way and it gets cheaper the more kilts you make. Until the kilts are about $800 a piece. A recognized tartan costs about $500 for an 8 yard kilt. So you are paying an extra $300 for your own registered tartan. Not too bad. I could think of worse ways to spend $300. Granted, you would need to find a lot of people to buy kilts...
