We talk a lot on here about selvage quality, traditional vs. "tuck" and so forth.

I thought the rabble here might appreciate seeing the comparative selvages from tartan woven by different woolen mills which I have recently photographed.

The first example is from D. C. Dalgliesh, K/1 heavy weight.

This is a traditional, true woven selvage.

This next example is from Lochcarron, Strome heavy weight.

This is a modern tuck selvage.

Next is from a length of Nevis heavy weight, by House of Edgar. (Their Nevis range is teflon coated to be stain resistant, and is less expensive than their normal heavy weight range).

It is also a tuck selvage.

This following is an example of House of Edgar's normal heavy weight range.

This is woven with a true selvage.

Lastly, here is an image of House of Edgar's regimental weight cloth.

This is also woven with a true selvage.

This represents the body of the different cloths I normally make kilts from. If anyone has good images showing the selvage from different mills, please feel free to post them.
