I have ancestors with the name of CLELAND from (south) Carolna colony, in the early 170s. I am suddenly struck by the idea that Clelland might be a variant spelling, or vice versa. Are there any readers familiar with either the Cleland or Clelland surname? Any possible connection to McClellan?
