A thread dedicated to myself? Well among my numerous qualities self obsession is not the major one so I just hope that my point of view will explain my motivation and may be other's ones.

I was born in France with a very british name most of froggies know because they use it in some typical sentences to learn english at school; Yes!
So you can imagine when living in the 60s and 70s ( I'm that old!) in a small village down south that I heard a lot! The thing is that the neighbours had plenty imagination and were persuaded that I was wearing a kilt in our garden...I swear it never happened but then urban legend was on its way!

Many years after I had the chance to go to Scotland and started to do a lot of things "scottish", like eating black pudding for my breakfast with potato scones, playing pipes and drinking lots of whisky; I met there generous and kind people I have never imagined such humanity could still exist and traditional european mentality subsisted.

That's why I got a kilt: not to impress my guests on Hogmanay, not to be pointed in the street by some pig-ignorant "bozos", not to pretend to be anyone else than who I am in reality, but to show, yes, to show I belong to the ancient world; a world of european educated people fierce of their culture and mentality and not ready to give-up to nowadays mess just because this is "fashion"!
I am proud, not because this is supposed to give me some extras in terms of qualities but for the only reason that I share this with other people like you.
This is the reason: I am strong by myself but I am not here to live alone as a selfish person, I am bringing my own little stone on the cairn and everyday try to help those I will be proud to call my brothers.
In those days where most of people have lost their dignity and continually show their rejection of their own culture, I am proud to be clever enough to love my culture, respect what the elders have done, proud of my name and ancestry, and at the same time opened-minded to others with no more restriction than common sense.

This is why I got a kilt, the very one symbol of my personality and my beliefs, a testimonial to the community.
