What tartans are "Notable"?

I would suggest the the Rob Roy/MacGregor would be, along with your Shepherd Check, the simplest of Tartans.

I agree that the sett is as simple, but consider that you have to dye the red bits. Theoretically, with the Shepherd, you only need a few black sheep in your flock!
