Today I received my first full wool casual kilt from Scotweb..
OK, so as you may have read in the title just an hour ago I received my (first) casual cut 13 oz. wool MacGregor hunting modern kilt (the same as my avatar) , and Man am I happy!!...LOL..
This new Scotweb made kilt isn't my first, but it's my first wool kilt. I own 7 other kilts (all traditional cut) and they are combinations of P.V. and 80% wool, and 20% something else. So while this "new delivery" isn't my first kilt, I'm suspect that it's certainly my best kilt, and (as of right now) my favorite kilt.
Prior to ordering a casual (5 yard) kilt I was on the forum, and asked for advice about, and regarding the benefits and differences of 5 and 8 yard. I also sought advice regarding 13 oz. vs. 16 oz. wool for my new kilt.
My thread (that thread) was rewarded with a generous volume of sage advice from long term kilt wearers, and to them I say "thank you". It wasn't wasted advice,....but I digress.....
In this thread I just wanted to chime in on the P.V. vs. Wool debate for a moment, and say that my P.V. kilts were a great start, and now that I've received my first wool kilt I'm going to continue to order wool kilts while still loving all of my P.V. (and synthetic) kilts as well.
The P.V. (synthetic) kilts gave me a great place to start, and a good way to enjoy kilt wearing. I'm thankful for that. They helped me make a decision to become (more of) a kilt wearer, and spawned my desire to order my first truly Scottish made kilt. I'm suspect that today's arrival is the first of many to come.
For those of us who have still yet to order a Scottish made wool kilt, let me just share with you MY opinion and observation about the difference between Wool, and P.V.
When I put on a kilt, I always feel like I'm getting dressed up. With the (new) wool kilt I felt like I was just putting on a $1,000.00 brooks brothers suite, vs something that I might just go to work in. Not to disparaging my P.V. kilts in any way, I love them, but just saying that after wearing (and loving) my P.V. kilts when I put on my wool kilt, I feel like "Going to Vegas!!"..LOL...
I have an event to go to this coming Sunday, and I'm really looking forward to wearing my new MacGregor modern hunting kilt to the occasion.
Here's Kilt collection, so far:
MacGregor modern (traditional cut and 8 yard)
MacGregor modern hunting (casual cut 5 yard)
Rob Roy (traditional 10 oz. 5 yard)
Pride of Scotland (traditional cut and 8 yard)
Granite grey (traditional cut and 5 yard)
Black (traditional cut & 8 yard)
Black watch (traditional cut & 8 yard)
Dark green (all green not a tartan)
I love every one these kilts and enjoying waring them as often as I can. A month, or two ago I started to having my version of "kilted Friday" but seeing as I'm self employed, and work alone (with leather dyes) I couldn't figure which one of my kilts I was interested in "sacrificing" to the leather dye gods, and so I've changed "Kilted Fridays" to Kilted Sundays"...LOL
With that being said, this coming Sunday is my new kilts debut.....
Photos to come, and all comments will be enjoyed, and appreciated.
