The other option is the PV kilts from USA kilts that many of the XMarkers wear.
MuffinMan , I agree with brewerpaul , I too have one of the Stillwater economy Black Watch in wool and it fits and hangs quite well for an inexpensive kilt . I was pleasantly surprised , I do own other 8 yd traditional kilts , therefore I wasn't expecting all that much from an economy kilt , but this one surprised me .

If your son wants a Black Watch kilt , this is a good starting point . It's wool , it's not too expensive and it hangs and wears better than some of the other inexpensive options .
One thing to remember , Stillwater's kilts are 24 " in length . If your son is tall he can wear it a little lower or if he's on the shorter side , he may have to hike it up a bit . ( I guess I just stated the obvious ! )
At any rate , if he wants a Black Watch kilt , this one will give him a positive experience and it won't be hard on the pocketbook for a first kilt .
