My big fat DIY wedding
Last month my love Meg and I married. Both of us are crafty types so when we started to plan our wedding we decided that we could do most of the things that normal people pay other people to do. The abbreviated list includes making a sporran (I previously posted), converting lace brogues to buckle brogues, making the wedding dress, making the cake, printing the invitation/rsvp cards, writing the ceremony, pimping a wedding arch with beacoup tartan. making gift bags for the tables and on and on..... In the home stretch it seemed like there wasn't any way we could finish everything but with grit and determination we did. We had a ball at the wedding. Family, friends, good food and good music made for a memorable day.
One of my good friends made my tartan waistcoat and altered a notch collar tux jacket to a custom kilt jacket. I went with solid brass French marine buttons on the jacket to match the brass sporran and brass shoe buckles. I decided to go with a cravat instead of the lace jabot and cuffs. All in all I was pleased with how it came together.
