When I was eighteen I went on a Grand Tour of the US & Canada. I worked 16 hour shifts (you could in those days) six days a week for two and a half years and saved every spare penny. I used Freddie Laker's Sky Train to get me there and Greyhound Buses to get me about. Six months of 'on a budget' travel later I flew home again via Iceland and Paris and hitched-hiked back from France, arriving with two quid in my pocket and a big smile on my face.
In '96 I worked in Alberta for 9 months and did some more of the Province and over the border in Montana, Wyoming, S & N Dackota in a battered RV.
Not been back since.
