I have been thinking about this recently. We expect to travel with a low cost airline later this year for a familly event, I'll be kilted at it. As its a short trip we were not planning on checking in luggage, £25 for 20kg, each way. There is a "free" 10kg cabin baggage allowance. My kilt, jacket, shoes, sporran, etc will take up a fair amount of my 10kg allowance, I reckon about half. As it will be a short trip of 4 days, and the Wife will claim some of my 10kg allowance (dont they all?) I resent the additional cost of what will effectively be flying my kilt out and back, so I will be chosing to wear it to fly.As an aside, my son and I were going to Barcelona for a couple of days to see a football match, arrive late friday, return early afternoon on the tuesday. We had a race to see who could pack the fastest, we were only taking the cabin baggage allowance. I won with a time of 50 seconds. the ladies of the house were shocked and did not understand or comprehend how this could be achieved. they said they would expect to spend 1 day planning what to take!!
