OK so a few months ago I posted this thread about designing a tartan. I sort of updated it but it seems to have died a natural (in an internet kind of way) death. So I am posting the update in a new thread.

So what I had to start with was the County Armagh tartan, which I realize is a fashion tartan and not really historical but it would do for these purposes.

I knew that I wanted to have a blue based tartan and not a green based tartan so my first adaptation was to change the greens to blues, which gave me this:

This was OK, but seemed rather dull looking to me. It also lacked the black and white that I wanted to include in it. So I added a white stripe to either side of the red stripe and a black stripe in between the gold stripes, giving me this:

That made the thinner stripes far too dominant to my eye, so I wanted to change that. I made the gold and white stripes a bit thinner and I moved the red/white stripes a bit further away from the dark blue. This gave me what I think is a good design worth submitting.

I am open to comments and suggestions, but I think this at least adds the colors I wanted, changes the design a bit but still keeps enough features from the original to work.
