Thanks for the compliment, I do enjoy making them. I found that a vest is about the easiest item to sew so I have quite a few. I tend to use them as a warmup when I want to do something more serious. It kinda gets my mind wrapped into sewing and hand work then I step into the more difficult item. You can use quite a few skills with a vest alone from welt pockets, top stitching, sewing curves, fitting arms and shoulders, sewing two types of fabric (wool and satin lining) and button holes. Have fun and find a pattern you like then jump into it. Making a quick muslin mockup always eases the moment when you start to cut your expensive wool, you know you have it right and just hold your breath and cut.
