Welcome aboard, Mark!
I'm pretty new here, too. Been on just a few short weeks. The folks here encouraged me and I jumped in with both feet. First night with the kilt, I was out with some close friends. A few days later I was wearing it to work. A few days after that, I was wearing it out dancing (and I don't even dance... but that's another story...)
The folks here are right. Don't work up to it. Just do it. Get the kilt, have someone take a picture of you with your kilt and another one with your pants. Ever see MIB-2? The pants pic is "old & busted". The kilt pic is "the new hotness". Once you see how good you look in a kilt, you can walk outside with confidence. Some will snicker. Some may even be rude. But you will get more positive than negative comments at the end of the day. For the most part once people around you are used to seeing it, they won't say anything at all unless they see you in pants.
Oh and if you are married, be careful. I kid you not. A man in a kilt is like catnip to some women. You think I am joking but you have been warned.
