But black tie is the equivalent of tuxedo and colored tuxedos went out with the '70's along with ruffled shirts.
I figure that if one is already wearing a kilt, it makes sense to follow highland conventions. That is just my view though.
I do not have an event to go to yet (San Diego is ultra casual) and it would likely be a highland one anyway, such as the local Cameron Highlanders banquet in the fall.
I do find the acceptance of colored jackets in formal kilted dress attractive and they don't go crazy with it. It tends to be very dark colors.
