On the contrary, I would suggest smaller gingham check. The problem you have with the present shirt pattern and larger you are heading towards the “ dreaded lumberjack” look. Subtlety is required in your circumstance and large checks in the shirt won’t do it for you. Leave the large and perhaps loud patterns for the kilt.
