Makenzie weathered tartan kilt
Here is my first attempt at making a kilt from new tartan fabric. Makenzie Weathered tartan (homespun) from The Celtic Croft. The fabric is a bit looser weave (bulkier) than the 16 oz kilts I already have. I used TAOK book and Robert MacDonald's videos as guidance for making this. The stabilizer is made from linen (recommended by my tailor daughter) and Hymo canvas interfacing. Left hip strap is inside the kilt (no "button hole")
Kilt is all hand stitched (with arthritic fingers).
Pleated to the orange stripe, pleats are about 4.5 inches deep.
I did not care for pleating to the white stripe on this tartan, as the white stripes would have been twice as many and too bright to go with the weathered colors for my taste.20251007_145402.jpg
