I enjoyed a very similar experience on Sunday Alan. I'd been invited to a friend's 50th Birthday party - a lunchtime 'do' held in a large garden with rolling lawns and with the food and drink (thankfully) in the cool of marquees. The only person I knew was the birthday-boy; the others were all total strangers - but not for long. By the time I'd selected a glass of wine, first one and then another woman had introduced themselves and began enquiring about the kilt. [Oh, I was wearing the muted brown kilt from KiltStore.net with my brown Freelander sporran, a cream Polo shirt, cream hose with muted brown flashes and brown 'boat' shoes]
Before I knew it, I think there were six women and one man standing around me, firing questions (none of them 'inappropriate'!) about that kilt, my other kilts and kilts in general. Having mentioned camouflage kilts at one point, and a questioner not apparently being able to visualise such a thing, I produced a Utilikilts business card, which shows Steven wearing a camo UK. That started a burst of requests for cards! Although I seldom leave home without a selection of kiltmakers' cards, I don't think I have had an opportunity to hand any out for several months. Yesterday, I should have had more with me - I gave away over fifteen cards: Utilikilts, Union Kilts, KiltStore.net and TFCK.
I am rather thinking that more than one wife will be giving her husband a kilt for Christmas as a result of that.
Unusually for me at such events, I had a great time. Usually, I am a bit of a wallflower at parties where I know no-one, but that certainly was not the case on Sunday. I was not on my own for one minute of the four hours I was there. This Friday evening, I am going to a 70th Birthday party, again an outdoor event, where I will know only the hostess. It will be interesting to see how the two parties compare ......... and I must remember to take a good supply of business cards!
