Yesterday (Wednesday the 29th), I had to go to Willow Grove NAS to get a physical so I can get back to the reserves. Long story for another time (preferably with a beer). Since I knew I was going to be poked, prodded and otherwise examined, I figured it would be easier if I wore the kilt (my brand new USAKilt in the Hay tartan). They knew I was coming and they knew my rank. What's the worst that could happen? As it turns out, nothing. A dental tech wanted to know if I knew any Scottish slang she could pass on to her boyfriend for use in his stand up comedy act (couldn't help her) and they said how much she liked the outfit. The dentist said I should have made a later appointment, because after seeing the kilt, he wanted to get some haggis and Guiness (and he was serious) and knew a great place. Then we talked for 10 minutes about visiting Scotland. The xray tech thought it was cool as did the doctor doing the physical exam. Most I got was questions on the tartan and "Scot Pride" and one kid put it. Then, I went to have breakfast and the ladies there gave me great big smiles. To top the morning off, I stopped in to visit Kelly and Rocky on the way home and got the grand tour, nice conversation and an invite to come back with the family. Was really great to meet them and got to look at some tartan swatches for future purchase. Not bad for a day of a military physical.
