to kilt or not to kilt, ......
I've never kilted to church although I imagine I could. (Because we process, I've never been comfortable with the idea of being a distraction for ANY reason when it's appropriate folks' attention should be directed elsewhere -- at a more relaxed service or one where the dress was more common, it would be a different story.)
My work requires slacks, and workouts are just more practical in gym shorts or trunks depending on if it's a weight day/bike day or a swim day. (And it's a bazich trying to deal with pleats doing stretches on a floor.) The same goes for romping at the river. Not only is there the drag, there's something not quite masculine about submerged pleats floating up in a circle around ya. LOL. And there are times it's just too hot for a kilt here, even the 'lightweight' ones, because pants offer protection from reflected heat that a kilt just doesn't especially when working outside.
So aside from being considerate, I guess my basic rule of thumb is practicality: no kilts when hanging upside down, working out, underwater or when the ground temp exceeds 140F.
The rest of the time is fair game, so trousers to office, change to shorts for the gym, shower, then it's kilted and home to grab the dogs and head to the park or off to night classes. Kilt for shopping, socializing, around the house, and family time. As Grandaddy said, "The right tool, for the right job."
