Many thanks, everyone, for your kind comments, but I don't have the kilt yet so let's not be premature! Rest assured, there will be photos taken just as soon as I get the 'shoot' set up. I am due to collect the kilt two weeks today so the Sunday could be the 'shoot' day! I'll keep you posted.
Oh, and I have asked for the kilt to be pleated to the stripe - the one that Paul has singled out
Paul, the "pale blue stripe" you refer to is the only hint of colour in the tartan. Seeing it with all those other shades of grey it does look blue-ish, but on its own it is clearly another grey. I understand the weavers refer to it as 'Birch Grey' or 'Silver Birch Grey' - after the silver bark on the trees of the same name that are found all over Scotland.
