Welcome aboard Marine,
My first thought was a camo. Not sure what Steve at Freedom Kilts has currently, he's too modest, a fellow Jarhead.
If you're after a tartan why not the USMC tartan? Elegant.
You can get an inexpensive USMC tartan kilt from SportKilts, just be sure to get the sewn down pleats, custome length, and belt loops.
Don't know if you could afford a wool USMC tartan kilt, particularly in Hawaii, but if you did most any kiltmaker could order up the material and sew it up for you.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
