Both my wife and I are right-handed, but our youngest daughter is a leftie. Never forced her to try to change.
I think I have a small understanding of what lefties face in the case of eating. I was taught "hold the meat with your fork in the left hand and cut it with the knife in your right. Then set the knife down and switch the fork to the right hand to raise the food."

Coming to Europe 20 years ago, I quickly found out this was "Strange" to my German friends and neighbors. They hold the fork in their left hands, cut with the knife in the right, but then use the fork in the left to raise the food to the mouth. Saves a lot of hassle switching hands.

Took me about 2-3 years to master the technique. I now find myself using the European technique when eating out or with German friends here, and using the US technique automatically, when in the USA or with American friends. My wife has commented on it, but I do it without thinking. Funny how the mind compensates.
