The ones I got at Walmart are brand name Ozark Trail, and I wore them nearly every day last summer, and have started wearing them nearly as often this summer too. They have a heavy rubber sole with good traction, and the uppers are some sort of rubberized synthetic.
So far they have proven VERY durable, and the sole is not even beginning to show signs of wear.
They are comfortable to walk in, though over extended periods the footbed does lack sufficient cushion. Anything more than about five or six hours of walking and my feet start to hurt. Of course, even in shoes that cost 20 times as much my feet start to hurt after six hours.
I only paid $10 for them, so even if I threw them out now and got something else I would have gotten my monies worth. As it is they seem to have at least another year in them, and that includes a year of beating pavement, sand, water, rock, and overgrown trail.
All in all good choice.
