Back a short while ago...and I'm not saying how short or long....a number of girls I knew (I grew up 30 miles north of Big Sur and one of my high school friends earned pocket money doing gardening for Joan Baez's mother). would take a pair of blue jeans and rip out the stitching on the inside of the legs, from the ankles all the way up and down the other side. They they'd fit in a piece of calico front and back and voila!...a jeans dress.
