Sunday Comments
Hi there!
This isn’t a big story, but I thought I would tell you folks of my experiences yesterday.
I only have one kilt and I’m still kind of nervous of what I might hear while I’m out in it. Well yesterday (Sunday) I decided to wear it to church. I have an off the rack Black Watch kilt with matching tie and flashes and with crème hose. I have a plain black sporran too, so this isn’t a very flashy outfit, but I think it looks good. This is the third time in about three months that I’ve worn it there and I’m surprised that I’m still getting comments. Most are what you would expect…I had one guys ask me where my bagpipes were, but we’re good friends and it was just a joking way of saying hi. I had several ask me what the occasion was, and I just said that I liked the look and that it was comfortable. I had one older guy ask me very directly what the deal with the “Scottish clothes” was and I told him that as far as I was concerned it was just an article of clothing and that it was comfortable.
None of these comments really bothered me, but I do get a little tired of the same thing all the time. I try to be pleasant because I know they aren’t trying to be rude, and in many cases they are just looking for something to say, but it gets tiresome. At the end of the day I think I’ll just stick with “I like the look and it’s comfortable”. That seems to satisfy most without really getting too deep in a conversation that I really don’t want.
One comment came from a young lady that recently immigrated from Wales. She said that she like the kilt and that it reminded her of home.
Oh, I did get one that really made my day. As I walked through a crowd of young women I heard one say “Now that’s cool!” They were way too young for me, but hey…cool is cool
I spent the rest of the afternoon working on my solid color kilt. I thought it was going to be a light kilt but with 5 inch deep pleats this is going to be a heavyweight! That's ok though...ya gotta have that swing!
