Normally the preserve of my black 16oz 8 yards kilt, I decided that the acrylic Black Watch from Union Kilts probably looked smart enough to wear to go into the Duns office to complete some paperwork today.

The offices were originally the premises of Duns Town Council, hence the copy of the Duns Burgh Charter hanging on the wall. When the burgh was abolished in 1975 the premises became the headquarters of Berwickshire District Council until 1996, but now an area office of Scottish Borders Council, dealing with liquor licensing, registration of births, deaths and marriages and the district court service.

John Duns Scotus was a franciscan priest who also wrote works of philosophy. He was born in Duns in late 1265 or early 1266. Duns was his family name and Scotus indicated that he was from Scotland. He died in 1308.
