    Wink advice

I just ordered the Lamont Ancient tartan. From House of Edgar, not Lochcarron. The House Of Edgar tartan is darker green and blue, and is good as either day or evening wear. The Lamont Ancient is very light colored from lochcarron, because they have a very natural dye. You might want to get a swatch of this tartan from House Of Edgar and Lochcarron, because the colors do vary so much. Do you know how to measure for a kilt, if not here is how:

    1) Waist - measure snugly around belly button; not to tight though
Give them the measurement in inches

    2) Hips - measure around the widest part of your hips. Measure comfortably, because whatever you get, add 1 1/2 to 2 inches to measurement. You want this loose because you want a nice swing in your kilt.

Give them the measurement for hips including the 1 1/2 to 2 inches in inches

    3) Length - top of your belly button to either top of knee or middle of knee while standing ( Have someone measure you for this).

Give them the measurement in inches and also say "Finished Length"

When you get ready to order, call Dunedin Scottish in Tampa, Florida and request to have Susan make this kilt for you. Also ask about yaradage and also price. 1-800-237-5836 ask for Darryl or Jim. Before you give them your final measurements, double check 2 or 3 times. Once the order has been submitted, they can't change it. I wish you good luck on your first kilt, because it is a feeling you will never experience again.

    Mike

To the sett is what people normally have their kilt pleated

To the stripe is more what the military and highland regiments wear it, but you can order it either way
