    My Sporrans

    This was our first attempt. It uses embossing leather for the face and back panel with black upholstery leather for the border.
    Marie did the leather carving and the leather knotting for the tassles;
    I did the design, the patterns and the construction.
    It's all machine sewn as I have a heavy walking foot sewing machine suited to this type of work.

    Happy as I was with the first one we figured I needed a more dressy sporran for more dressy occasions. Again I looked and studied a few, did a few drawings then made my own patterns. It uses embossing leather for the back panel and the front panel(under the rabbit skin which is too thin by itself). Marie even got the rabbit skins from a rabbit farm(meat rabbits) and tanned them herself, we still have some skins tucked away. Soft upholstery leather for the borders again, also covered in rabbit. To get the cantle and bells, we purchased a cheap pakistani synthetic sporran and took it apart. A source of decent cantles would be nice.

    I've since done a couple more of these, one as a christmas gift for Father in Law and one as a commision for a friend (it was a surprise from his wife). I'm now thinking of making a semi-dress Sporran, just working on what I want it to look like first.

    Maybe a kangaroo skin face with plain leather tassles.
