For all the Mackays...
...or even those who love a good story, here is one for you:
http://www.jamesmackay.us/
James Mackay was a Scottish fur-trader who mapped the Missouri River in the service of the Spanish Crown in the late 1700's, along with his assistant, a Welsman named Evans. He also served as the Commandant of the St. Charles District in Spanish Missouri.
His story is very similar to fellow Scot Alexander Mackeznie, whose expedition to the Pacific in 1793 paved the way for those "latecomers", Lewis & Clark! (only kidding!)
The author of this book spoke at the Missouri Tartan Day festivities in St. Charles a couple of years ago, but I didn't get a chance to hear her talk.
Enjoy!
