4 Yard Kilt - Can it be formal?

I've been gone A LOT the last couple weeks, and ONE of the things I did was attend a FORMAL black-tie wedding at the InterContinental hotel in Buckhead (Atlanta) Georgia.

Several, including the bride, commented and complimented the kilt and one said I was the most formally dressed one there.

I was wearing a 4-yard box pleat, X Marks 13 oz, kilt I made, with a "MacWage Original" fur/silver sporran (my first attempt at a formal-style sporran and test), and a modified double breasted jacket first completed a decade ago and "touched-up" this Friday (when my ordered Argyle and vest didn't show-up).
