Here's another alternative.
The dark green stripe is a bit more than 3/4" wide. Given the size of the sett (4"), it would be easy to get enough pleats to have the pleats be no more than 3/4" wide. This would make the back of the kilt very green. That's the option that Turpin shows in his pics.
If you doubled the sett in each pleat, you'd need a lot of fabric to get pleats 3/4" wide. On the other hand, you could use a reasonable amount of fabric (could even be done with the 6 yards that Turpin has) and choose to make half as many quite large pleats. If the pleats were at least an inch and a quarter across, there would be a nice red stripe down each side of the green. I think that would look dandy, myself.
